Welcome to OPHS Counseling — a student-centered resource created to support the academic, college, career, and social-emotional growth of the Oak Park High School community.

Our counseling program is designed to help students navigate high school with confidence, purpose, and support. From course planning and graduation requirements to college applications, career exploration, personal development, and family resources, OPHS Counseling is here to guide students through important decisions at every stage of their high school experience.

Who We Are

OPHS Counseling serves students and families at Oak Park High School by providing guidance, resources, and support throughout grades 9–12.

Our counseling team works with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community partners to create a supportive environment where students can learn, grow, and plan for the future. The goal of the counseling program is to enhance the learning process for all students through academic, career, and social-emotional support.

We believe every student deserves access to clear information, thoughtful guidance, and caring support as they move through high school and prepare for life after graduation.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help students build the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to succeed in school and beyond.

We support students by helping them:

  • Understand academic requirements and course options
  • Plan a meaningful high school pathway
  • Explore college, career, and postsecondary opportunities
  • Prepare for applications, transcripts, recommendations, and deadlines
  • Access forms, resources, and planning tools
  • Develop social-emotional awareness and healthy decision-making skills
  • Connect with support when challenges arise

OPHS Counseling is committed to helping students become prepared, responsible, and well-rounded individuals.

What We Do

Academic Planning

High school planning can feel overwhelming without clear guidance. OPHS Counseling helps students understand course options, academic expectations, graduation requirements, schedule choices, and planning steps.

Students and families can use counseling resources to review academic forms, AP/Honors information, course catalog materials, daily activity planning tools, time management worksheets, and other academic supports.

Our goal is to help students make informed choices that match their interests, strengths, goals, and readiness.

College Planning

College planning is a major part of the high school experience for many students. OPHS Counseling provides resources to help students understand application steps, recommendation requests, transcript procedures, financial aid events, scholarship opportunities, and important senior-year tasks.

For seniors, counseling resources include reminders about college lists, Naviance steps, Common App matching, transcript requests, counselor meetings, and recommendation letter planning.

We help students stay organized, meet deadlines, and approach the college process with greater confidence.

Career Readiness

Not every student follows the same path after high school. OPHS Counseling supports career exploration by helping students think about interests, skills, values, future goals, and available opportunities.

Whether a student is considering a four-year college, community college, trade program, military pathway, gap year, internship, or direct career entry, our counseling resources encourage thoughtful planning and informed decision-making.

Social and Emotional Support

A strong high school experience is not only about grades and applications. Students also need support for personal growth, wellness, relationships, stress management, decision-making, and resilience.

OPHS Counseling is here to help students feel seen, supported, and connected. When students face challenges, counselors can help them identify resources, develop coping strategies, and find appropriate support.

Forms and Student Resources

The OPHS Counseling website provides access to important forms and planning documents, including academic forms, AP/Honors materials, course-related requests, college forms, release of information forms, and planning worksheets.

These resources are designed to make important school processes easier to understand and easier to complete.

Our Counseling Philosophy

We believe school counseling works best when students, families, educators, and counselors collaborate. The OPHS Counseling program is built around partnership, communication, and student growth.

Our approach is guided by several core values:

Student-Centered Support

Every student has unique strengths, goals, challenges, and questions. We aim to provide guidance that respects each student’s individual path.

Clear Communication

Students and families need timely, accurate, and accessible information. We work to make counseling resources easy to find and understand.

Academic and Personal Growth

Success includes academic progress, emotional wellbeing, responsibility, independence, and preparation for life after high school.

Future Readiness

We help students look ahead, explore options, and make thoughtful choices about college, careers, and personal goals.

Collaboration

Counseling support is strongest when students, families, teachers, and school staff work together.

We aim to provide resources that help students feel supported regardless of their background, goals, learning needs, or future plans. Every student deserves guidance that helps them understand their options and take meaningful next steps.

Working With Families

Families play an important role in student success. OPHS Counseling encourages parents and guardians to stay informed, ask questions, review resources, and participate in planning conversations when appropriate.

High school includes many decisions, and family support can help students stay organized, balanced, and prepared.

Important Note

OPHS Counseling provides school-based guidance and student support resources. For urgent safety concerns, mental health emergencies, or immediate crisis situations, students and families should contact emergency services, a trusted adult, school administration, or appropriate local crisis support immediately.

The counseling website is a resource hub, but it is not a substitute for emergency assistance.

At OPHS Counseling, our promise is to support students with care, clarity, and purpose.

We are here to help students understand their academic options, prepare for college and career pathways, access important resources, and develop the confidence they need for life after high school.
